Austin Impact Jeet Kune Do

Ready to take the next step and find out if Austin Impact JKD is right for you?

On this page I’ll try to answer every question you have about getting started.

I’m excited to meet you and introduce you to the martial art that has meant so much to me.

How do I get started?

Now for the fun part–hitting things!

It’s time to come in and try out a class.

Start by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.

What to expect when you fill out the form

I’ll call you within a few days to set up a time for you to come in and try out a class.

You’ll also be subscribed to our weekly emails, which include tons of free training videos, gym news, and any discounts we’re running.

Or you can just call me directly at 512-670-9333.

What to expect when you come in

For your first class you’ll be partnered up with someone who’ll show you the ropes and walk you through the drills.

The only thing you won’t do until you’re a member is spar.

What should I do when I get there?

You’ll want to come about 5 mins early to fill out a waiver–it basically says that if you break your neck we don’t get sued.

Don’t worry. So far we’ve had no necks broken.

When you show up I’ll probably be teaching a class, so just grab the waiver off the table and fill it out.

Feel free to hang out and watch the class finish up, or go in the back room and warm up a bit or talk to the other students.

When we start class, line up with the rest of the group.

How much is a membership?

Memberships are $150 a month for 1 year.

Yes, there are cheaper gyms out there.

But remember–you get what you pay for.

Our classes are worth every penny.

How often can I attend?

You can come as often as you’d like.

We have JKD classes 4 days a week.

And you can do any of the other classes we offer, like the Fitness and Ukidokan Kickboxing classes.

Your membership gets you COMPLETE access to the gym.

What happens to my membership if I get sick or injured, or if I quit coming?

Let me know if you get injured or sick or can’t come in for whatever reason and we’ll give you that time back for free at the end of your membership.

That way you never pay for a membership you can’t use.

On the other hand, if you’re just losing the battle to the couch, you get no such freebie and shame on you.

How often should I attend in order to make progress?

As long as you’re attending twice a week you’ll progress just fine.

However, 3 times a week would be ideal.

Should I do Private Lessons?

Honestly, if you did 2-3 private sessions with me you’d immediately see just how beneficial they are.

People progress probably 10x faster with private lessons.

Having said that, there’s give and take in both.

I charge $50 an hour (an amazing deal and I keep it this low only because I love working with people 1-on-1, so I want it to be affordable).

If you want to try private lessons, I recommend either committing to doing them once or twice a week or supplementing your regular group classes with one every couple of months in order to sharpen things up.

Will I get a high pressured salespitch when I come in?

Nope.

I hate those kinds of gyms as much as you do.

Besides, our classes speak for themselves.

I’d love to have you and I’ll ask how you enjoyed the class, but that’s about it.

How in shape should I be?

Don’t worry if you’re completely out of shape right now.

We’ve got students of all fitness levels.

Some use the class as a fun way to get back in shape, and some are in great shape already.

You’ll fit in, no matter what level you’re at.

Will I get hit?

Safety and a fun learning environment are my top concerns.

All of the drills you’ll be doing will be done with control or on pads.

And you won’t be doing any sparring as a guest member.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear basic workout clothes–things you can move around in easily.

If you have equipment, bring it. If not, don’t worry about it. We’ve got plenty.

Some people wear shoes when they train, some go barefoot.

Can I come in just to watch?

Yes, but training is so much more fun and will give you a better feel for the class.

Having said that, we have chairs where you can sit and observe a class first.

What to expect when you join

When you decide to join, just pull me aside after class and let me know.

We use auto-billing, so you’ll need a credit or debit card.

There’s a $50 start up fee.

That’s for your boxing gloves and JKD school shirt (that’s our uniform).

If you already have 14-16 oz boxing gloves the start up fee is $25.

You’ll also get a JKD Basics Video Course emailed to you to get you started.

It goes in depth on the basic techniques you’ll learn in class, so you’ll want to refer to it as you progress.
